Is your diet healthy?
A western style diet vs Paleo style…
Example of a healthy western style diet:
Plenty of vegetables, good amounts of fruit, legumes, nuts, seeds, adequate wholegrains, dairy, lean protein and seafood. Use of healthy oils. Limited highly processed food, especially those high in sugar, fat or salt, or containing food additives. Allowance for more indulgent foods when the occasion calls for it. No, or only very occasional, sweetened drinks. Alcohol in moderation.
Example of a not so healthy western style diet:
Lacking vegetables and fruit (not juice), high in meat and refined carbohydrates (especially lower fibre breads, biscuits and breakfast cereals). Regular intake of highly processed food, especially those high in sugar, fat or salt, or containing food additives. Regular intake of sweetened drinks such as fruit juice, soft drinks, flavoured milks. Alcohol in excess.
Example of a healthy Paleo style diet:
Plenty of vegetables, good amounts of legumes, fruit, nuts, seeds, lean protein and seafood. Use of healthy oils. Very little (if any) highly processed food. Allowance for more indulgent foods and alcohol when the occasion calls for it.
Example of a not so healthy Paloe style diet:
Plenty of vegetables and protein, good amounts of fruit, nuts and seeds. A fixation on certain products such as coconut oil and activated almonds. Use of specialised (and processed) Paleo products such as Paleo balls, bars and protein powders. Avoidance of all other highly processed foods, no allowance for more indulgent foods when the occasion calls for it. An attitude that everybody else should change their diet to match yours.
